Boldbrush Award

I am so pleased, honored and humbled to have been awarded the June Boldbrush award for my painting, Studio View, depicting the view I have of New Jersey out my studio window through marbles on my windowsill.

Please pardon my lapse in postings, but I have been busy learning about and exploring my new city as well as painting several commissions and new works!
More exciting news-I am now represented by Brandt-Roberts Galleries on High Street in Columbus, Ohio and my work will be part of a group show, Clear Reflections, at Mason Fine Arts in Atlanta GA opening July 31.

Good things, great weekend!

I'm thrilled to report that my show with Carl Holzman, Mid Century Revival, at the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art opened this past weekend.  Unfortunately I couldn't be two places at one time, and was thrilled to be in NYC for my daughters wedding.  I am so anxious to see the show later next month and hope you can get there too if you are in the area!

Happy New Year!

Happy 2015!  I've had a great start to the year! Thanks to the Shain Gallery for my first sale of the year, and thanks to Coca-Cola Corp. for not only including my work in the upcoming book on the 100th year of the bottle design, but for touring two of my paintings in a year long, 15 country tour along side the work of Andy Warhol, Norman Rockwell and more!!  I am so thrilled to have my work included in this show!

I spent a lot of time last fall in NYC- watching football games, exploring museums and neighborhoods and spending time with my two favorite people in the world, my kids!  My plans to move there are shaping up and I am trying to sort and organize ( not my strong suit) things before the big move.  In going through my things as well as my parents household, I am struck by the things we as humans keep and the things to which we attach value.  I have started a series that reflects this.  here is one of the first paintings.

Thank you for your patience..

The last 8 months have been filled with heartache, change and turmoil, and I am so grateful for your patience as I took time off to process all the emotions and loss and change that has happened.  I am now getting back in the studio and feel more like myself again.  I am loving painting and am thankful for commissions and upcoming shows that are keeping me busy!

Busy summer!

I apologize for the lack of posts these past couple of months.  I knew that June would be busy, but July proved to be just as crazy!  But it was all good!  June was full of college visits for our youngest who was offered several football scholarships, and chose to commit to Fordham University in NYC to play D1 football next fall!  We are so proud of his hard work and so excited for all the opportunities he will have there.  And... he will be close to his older sister, so we will get to visit BOTH kids when we go!  :)  July started off with a secret we had to keep for weeks until our older son proposed to his girlfriend on the lake Michigan beach with all of the family in attendance.  So thrilled for them and happy to have Ally as part of our family. Having said all that, I have been able to get a few paintings completed and started a new bag series which I am really enjoying.  Here are a few of my recent paintings...

Facing Fifty

On Friday of this week, I turn 50 years old!.  I don't feel "50".. not even sure what that is supposed to feel like.  Most days I don't think about it, and when I do, I feel like the same awkward, outsider girl I was in high school and I certainly don't feel like a "grown up" even though I have lived this long and have raised children to adulthood.  So to record this milestone in my life, I painted a self portrait.  I wanted it to be a little naked and raw.  No makeup, no hair style, no jewelry, with the scars and wrinkles I've earned along the way.  Just me, reflecting on getting to this point in my life.

Mooooving right along!

I have been working hard on glass paintings for the Contemporary Realism show in March, but Saturday I felt the need to break out a bit.  So I went through my thousands of reference photos and found this old girl asking for a portrait. I had the best time painting her!

one more doll painting... for now

I finished this painting at the end of last year and have to be done with my doll paintings for a month or two.  I have lots more that I am looking forward to painting, but I will be focusing on getting work done for the Contemporary Realism show at the Hammond Harkins Gallery, opening March 8, 2013!

End of Cherry season

A few weeks ago I was at the grocery and grabbed one of the last bags of cherries for the season to paint. I love the red cherries in the green jadite dishes and I love the challenge of painting things in the background out of focus!

New work!

The past couple of weeks I have been working on two paintings that couldn't be more different from one another.  One is glass, with bright colors and hard edges and the other is a flower with soft whites and soft edges.  I have really enjoyed going back and forth between them.
A Rose By Any Other Name.. 36" x 48"  oil on canvas

While roses are not my favorite flower, I couldn't resist the challenge of the warm shadows and cooler highlights.

The jars introduce my new flea market find!  The jar is a Quick Seal and I loved painting that big Q for a change!!

Both paintings will probably head south with me in October.

A few works in progress...

I have been working on a couple pieces at the same time this week.. something I don't normally do, but I have really been enjoying it and learning a lot.. which is what it is all about!
We were at the beach for a family vacation last week and found this conk shell.  The first thing all the kids did was to put it to their ear.. Hence the name..

Sounds of Surf 60" x 48" oil on canvas

And this is a painting that I started back when the peonies bloomed, but just now got back to it!

Also this week, I was delighted and honored to find out that my painting, The Station, received the Hazen/Taft award at the Ohio Sate Fair professional exhibit!  It is a great and impressive exhibit and I would encourage anyone in the area or going to the fair to see it!

Today I am headed to Mansfield Art Center to help with Art Explosion.  If you are in the area and looking for something to do, stop by!  I think it will be a great time!  Hope everyone has a great weekend!
