Piano Man Project

Piano Man Project is a very cool project that my friend, Ken Arthur, is doing.  This show opens tomorrow at the Sandusky Cultural Center.  The show will also feature the work of Gary Spinosa.  If you get a chance to go see this show, I highly recommend doing so!  Two VERY talented artists!  I can't make the opening, but can't wait to see the show next week!

Single Fare 3

There is a really fun show happening next month in NYC!! The Single Fare 3 exhibition at the RH Gallery, NYC, opening February 13, 2013.

Here is the info..

A big show of small works on MetroCards.

OPENING: February 13, 2013 6pm - 9pm

Following the tremendous success of “Single Fare 2,” Michael Kagan, Jean-Pierre Roy and RH Gallery are pleased to announce “Single Fare 3,” an exhibition of artwork on New York City MTA MetroCards. Inspired by the notion that the city’s subways and buses allow for a kind of creative interchange unmatched in human history, the first “Single Fare” sought to create a unique art event where art and artists could come together to form a monumental event made from a tiny, innocuous piece of plastic: The MetroCard! Single Fare 3 promises to deliver an even more exciting exhibition with more art, more artists and new ways to view and enjoy the work.

Facing Fifty

On Friday of this week, I turn 50 years old!.  I don't feel "50".. not even sure what that is supposed to feel like.  Most days I don't think about it, and when I do, I feel like the same awkward, outsider girl I was in high school and I certainly don't feel like a "grown up" even though I have lived this long and have raised children to adulthood.  So to record this milestone in my life, I painted a self portrait.  I wanted it to be a little naked and raw.  No makeup, no hair style, no jewelry, with the scars and wrinkles I've earned along the way.  Just me, reflecting on getting to this point in my life.

Mooooving right along!

I have been working hard on glass paintings for the Contemporary Realism show in March, but Saturday I felt the need to break out a bit.  So I went through my thousands of reference photos and found this old girl asking for a portrait. I had the best time painting her!

Art-filled Weekend!

This past weekend was wonderfully filled with art and friends, both old and new!  On Friday night, we went to the opening of Small and Wonderful at The Hammond Harkins in Bexley, OH.. Here is my wall of small and wonderful!
The show hangs through January 6th!

And On Sunday evening we attended an artist's reception for the 130 artists who had work selected to hang at the Hilton Downtown Columbus Hotel.  It was a lovely dinner reception where we saw old friends and met many new ones as well!
The project was to decorate the hotel using all mid-Ohio artists and it looked amazing!  They did a fabulous job and I'm very proud to be a part of it!   Click here to see a cool video on it!

Now I'm happily back in the studio working on a Christmas commission for the Wells Gallery in Charleston, SC and some small ornament paintings for Hammond Harkins Gallery in Bexley.

Small Works!

I have been loving painting smaller works over the last few weeks.  I got really excited over some small moody NYC scenes, and then earlier this week, I just really wanted to paint a bit tighter and found this ribbon candy that has been sitting in the studio for a year or more waiting for the right time.  (I wouldn't try to eat it, but it wasn't in bad shape considering! )  :)
How blessed I am to be able to do what I love!
Happy Thanksgiving to you!!

Home Sweet Home!

What a wonderful, crazy week we have had.  A week ago today we unloaded paintings and then enjoying a nice afternoon poolside at The Sanctuary on Kiawah Island.  What an incredible place, we felt so blessed to be there!  That evening I did a painting demonstration for The Wells Gallery "Art Uncorked" event in the resort.  I had a great evening talking with, and meeting people from all over the country.  Mary Ellen got the "furthest drive award" and I was so glad she came and we got to talk a bit! Thanks to Hume, Emily, Kelly and the staff of The Sanctuary for a wonderful time.  After the show, we headed north again so we could make it home for our youngest son Ty's last football game of the season Friday night. (They won!)  Saturday was a day filled with family, friends, amazing food and some Halloween fun!  We started off the day with a quick visit with our oldest daughter, Cat, who had just driven in from NYC for a wedding and my fathers' 86th birthday party.  We then went to see oldest son, Connor, at ONU for lunch, drove on to Heidelberg Univ. to see our second oldest daughter, Kaleigh, play is the high schools' district volleyball game (they lost :(.. ) and continued on to The Culinary Vegetable Institute where we changed into American Gothic zombies and enjoyed an amazing meal prepared by Executive Chef Tony Dee of Eddie Merlot's for their October Earth to Table event. On Sunday we celebrated my dad's 86th in style with family and friends and tons more good food as Chef Tony and his lovely fiance', Kacey, came and stayed a day with us before heading back to Indianapolis to finish packing to move to Chicago this week.  His parents, our dear friends, Vicky and Dave, finally made it home to Virginia Beach through Hurricane Sandy yesterday, just a day or two later than they had planned. Cat and her boyfriend, Nick, made it home Sunday evening/Monday morning deciding to ride out their second NYC hurricane in their apartment with their cats on the upper east side.  Phew! So glad everyone is home safe and sound! Such a good week, but I have to admit that I am still catching up on sleep!
