This is my painting for the different strokes challenge... the challenge this time was this beautiful statue of Companion of Diana.... I didn't have any canvases or boards this shape, so i gessoed some watercolor paper and painted on that.. It was very challenging!! The paint moved very differently from canvas or board... and seemed to absorb in... I'd like to experiment with more sometime... If anyone has helpful hints on how to prime/paint on paper I'd love to hear them!!

I never tried oil on paper...so sorry, can't help you.
This is sure a well done painting for DSFDF. Gonna have to get mine in today.

Very nice job, Sally! Really great shadow and form.

I've done a little painting on paper. I put a couple of coats of Acrylic or Gesso which hardens the surface and then paint as usual. Have Fun!

Hi, Sally - this is great! You succeeded despite the challenges of the surface! I love painting on gessoed watercolor paper. I use 140 lb. cold press in sheets-not from a pad. The mould-made sheets are a little sturdier. Then I gesso both sides to seal it. It does take me a little more effort to cover, but I love the initial thin washes of paint, and how it takes on the surface. Interesting effects.
Nice response to this DSDF challenge!

hi sally - WOW!! so excited to see your blog today - your work has 'grown' (Much larger pieces than id seen before!).... congrats on the gallery works......
also, must tell you I began a bathrobe painting about two months ago - first large piece ive done and the folds have been a huge challenge. Concentrating on color changes within a given value - the primise of value being more important than color.
happy paintings!

Gwen and Liz, I had fun, but will try your suggestions... perhaps more gesso, and gessoing both sides! I really appreciate the help... and your kind comments!!Angela, Thanks! I'm still trying to get my bottle tree up!! :)
Laine, Thank you! I really had fun with the robes... I have a couple more in my head... along with a few thousand other ideas... so we will see if I get to them!
